Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

Iby’Iwacu cultural village is found near Volcanoes national park in Rwanda, the inhabitants of Iby’lwacu cultural village used to live and survive in the park through hunting and fruit gathering but since they were relocated they now live in the surrounding villages including Iby’Iwacu. The people at the center were former hunters and poachers of the forest who have now reformed to become cultural performers, crafts men and do a lot of other tourists activities.

Rwanda has got very unique and authentic cultural activities to offer from the locals besides gorilla trekking, you can enjoy traditional dances and songs from the energetic African dancers under the stars. On top of cultural performances you can learn how to weave baskets and many other traditional activities.

Traditional wedding ceremony
While at the Iby’Iwacu cultural village, tourists can engage in a traditional marriage ceremony and act like a Rwandan King and Queen. This one of the most thrilling traditional activities in Africa as the locals cheer up when you’re getting engaged and marrying. There are also a lot of other locally handmade crafts at the center which you can buy as souvenirs to take back home for remembrance or buy as gifts. You can also sample Rwanda’s staple food and learn how its made.

Gorilla trekking
Gorilla trekking is the most reason why thousands of tourists flood Rwanda annually, gorilla trekking is done at Volcanoes national park found in the northern part of the country bordering Uganda and Democratic republic of Congo. The cost of a permit per person is $1500 and an hour is given for observation. Kids under the age of 15 years and sick tourists will not be allowed to trek gorillas.

Volcanic climbing
Rwanda is home to five of the eight Virunga volcanoes found in Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic republic of Congo. The mountains are found within volcanoes national park and they include; Mount Muhabura, Mount Karasimbi, Mount Gahinga, mount Sabinyo and Mount Bisoke. Tourists can add mountain climbing to their cultural experience with each mountain providing a unique experience and extra ordinary views.
