Best time to Visit Rwanda

Rwanda is a country found in central and east Africa also known as land of a thousand hills, Rwanda is one of the three countries in the world where one can trek mountain gorillas from. The country also has a canopy walk way which is one of its kinds in east and central Africa. Gorilla trekking is the most commonly done tourists’ activity in Rwanda and the country offers up market gorilla tourism with permits costing $1500 per person per trek. Rwanda also celebrates the Kwita Izina gorilla naming ceremony which involves naming new born baby gorillas.

Rwanda has got three national parks that is volcanoes national park, Akagera national park and Nyungwe forest national park. All this national parks offer unique experiences for travellers with volcanoes national park being the most visited, the park is also home to five of the eight Virunga massif volcanoes so it offers volcanic climbing adventures.

When to Visit Rwanda
Rwanda just like Uganda has two main dry seasons and two wet seasons, though the country can be visited all year round some months are better than other months that can be seen below.

Dry seasons
There are two dry seasons in Rwanda and that is from mid December to early February and the long dry season from June to September. During this time, the vegetation is not thick making it easy to spot wildlife. This is also the best for gorilla trekking as the trekking trails are not muddy and slippery but in perfect condition.

Wet seasons
The wet seasons in Rwanda begin from mid February to early June and from to mid September to mid December. The wet season can be the best time to visit Rwanda for chimpanzee trekking this is because during third time food is very abundant for chimpanzees so they won’t be going to higher elevations in search for food, chimpanzees can easily be trekked at this time of the year. Visiting Rwanda for gorilla trekking during this time of the year is not advisable because roads leading to the park are not in good condition and the hiking trails become very steep, muddy and slippery.

Mid October to November
Mid October to November is the best time for birding in Rwanda, birding can also be done in early December and late May. This is also the best time for excellent photography because the vegetation is just blossoming and lush green. Though it can rain in most cases the sky clears up and the sun shines bright again.

The most common tourists activity in Rwanda is gorilla trekking at Volcanoes national park plus mountain climbing but tourists can also explore Nyungwe forest national park for the scenic canopy walk and chimpanzee trekking, you can enjoy game drives at Akagera national park.
