  • Thank you so much to Lucas who organised my 5 day trip to Rwanda and Richard who was my excellent guide for the duration of the trip. The organisation of the trip was excellent and Lucas was very helpful when my return flight was unexpectedly cancelled. A good guide makes a huge difference and Richard was superb. The last two nights accommodation at Virunga Lodge was wonderful. Seeing the gorillas and golden monkeys was an incredible experience and really worth it!

  • From the very beginning of our trip to the end we had excellent service. The guide provided us with lots of information and looked after us. He was also patient and diligent in searching for the more elusive animals. The hotels were good and the food was super, including the food provide for our midday meal whilst out in the national parks. All in all it was first class service and we highly recommend them.

Cost of a gorilla trekking permit

Traditional gorilla tracking cost for each gorilla permit in Uganda is $600 for Foreign residents, $700 for Non Foreign residents and UGX 250,000 for East African citizens. Now $1500 in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, offers a virtual guarantee that you’ll see gorillas up close and personal in a relaxed, even docile, mood for one unforgettable hour.

Also in Bwindi Impenetrable national park, gorilla habituation experience permit costs $1000 for Foreign residents, $1500 for Non Foreign residents and UGX 750,000 for East African citizens. The gorilla habituation experience lasts four hours, but how long you spend in their company depends on how long it takes to find them.

When to go for gorilla trekking trips?

Of the fact that tourists can visit the parks at any time of the year, peak periods for mountain gorilla trekking are majorly the 2 dry seasons (June – September and December – February). Mandatory gorilla viewing permits are often more easily and cheaply obtained during the quieter rainy seasons (March – May and October – November), though trekking conditions tend to be more difficult at this time. The forests can be cold and wet at high altitudes, particularly in the night and early morning.

Whichever option you opt for, tracking mountain gorillas is extraordinary, evoking a deep connection with our closest cousins in a truly enriching and unforgettable experience.
