Chimpanzee Trekking Permits

Chimpanzees are a great species of apes sub divided in to four species; chimpanzees are larger than the bonobo monkeys, their bodies are covered with black fur except in the face, palms, hands, fingers, soles and feet.

A female chimpanzee can weigh from 27-50 kilograms while males can weigh from 40-60 kilograms. Gestation period for a female chimpanzee is 8 months almost like humans and the females weans the baby until about the age of 3-4 years old and will still maintain a close relationship until a baby matures enough.

Chimpanzee tacking always starts in the morning at 8am and you spend about 2-3 hours looking for the apes and once tourists find the chimpanzees they are given an hour to observe and take photos and flash cameras are not allowed.

When booking chimpanzee trekking permits, make sure you give full details on your passport, year, month and date of trekking so that you will know id permits are available as they sometimes run out due to high demand.Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda can be done at Kyambura gorge at Queen Elizabeth national park, Kalinzu forest, Kibale national park and Budongo forest at Murchison falls national park.

Chimpanzee trekking can be done at Nyungwe forest national park and Cyamudongo forest in Rwanda. Chimpanzee trekking in Democratic Republic of Congo is done at Virunga national park.

Rwanda charges $100 for chimpanzee trekking permits and there are over 64 permits available for trekking chimpanzees. The cost of chimpanzee trekking permits is $150 in Uganda during the dry season and $100 during the low season in Kibale national park, Kyambura gorge permits cost $50 during dry and rain season, Budongo forest chimpanzee permits cost $90 per person.

Chimpanzee trekking permits can be booked through Uganda wildlife authority in Uganda, Rwanda development board in Rwanda or through a tour operator in any of those countries. Chimpanzee trekking permits will not be sold to children under the age of twelve years and people with infections such as flue.
