Uganda is a landlocked country located in east Africa, the country is endowed with 10 national parks and 10 game reserves where you can explore Africa’s unique wildlife, birds, jungles and beautiful scenery . Uganda’s Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is home to half of the world’s population of the endangered mountain gorillas. The country is surely a priceless gem boasting with the source of the world’s longest river the Nile River with the strongest waterfalls found at the scenic Murchison falls national park in North West Uganda.
Best time to Visit Uganda
Uganda can be visited all year round but some months are better than the rest of the months, the peak season is the best season for visiting the country when its summer and holiday time in Europe and America. Uganda has two main seasons that is the wet season and the dry season which can be seen below.
Dry season
The long dry season in Uganda is from June to September, the short dry season is from December to February. This is the best time to visit the country because the vegetation is not thick, the grass is short and wildlife can be spotted easily. During this dry season the roads to the parks are very easy to access and animals are also concentrated on water points making them easily visible. Tourists visiting during this time of the year should always book their permits three months in advance before the actual trekking day.
Best time for bird watching
Uganda is one of the top birding destinations in the world with over 1000 species of birds; the best time for birders to visit the country for birding is in November when birds from North Africa and Europe are present.
Wet season
There are two wet seasons in Uganda that is from October to mid December and from mid December to May. The country can still be visited at this time but it can’t be very convenient because the roads leading to the parks can become very impassable and vegetation gets thick making it hard to spot wildlife. Visiting during the wet season is also advantageous because most lodges give discounts on their rooms making it possible for budget travelers to visit the country.
In conclusion Uganda is an all year safari destination only that some months are more favorable than other months but this doesn’t mean you can’t visit the county.
There are a lot of tourist’s activities to engage in while in Uganda, you can take game drives at the national parks like Kidepo valley national park and Queen Elizabeth national park. The magnificent Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park are the best places for gorilla trekking safaris. For mountain climbers you can choose from the volcanoes in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Mount Ruwenzori and Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda.
